Maureen K. Ohlhausen was the acting chairwoman of the Federal Trade Commission from 2017 to 2018. On January 23, 2018, President Donald Trump (R) nominated her to serve as a federal judge on the United States Court of Federal Claims.[1] Ohlhausen withdrew her nomination in October 2018 to join the law firm of Baker Botts.[2]

Ohlhausen received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and her J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law.[1]

Professional career

At the time of her nomination, Ohlhausen was acting chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). She was confirmed as a commissioner on the FTC in 2012 and became acting chairwoman in 2017. Before that, she was in private practice with Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP. She also previously served in staff positions with the FTC, as a staff attorney on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and as law clerk to Judge David Sentelle on the DC Circuit. She also served as law clerk to Judge Robert Yock of the United States Court of Federal Claims.[1][3]

On January 23, 2018, President Donald Trump (R) nominated Ohlhausen to serve as a federal judge on the United States Court of Federal Claims.[1] Hearings on Ohlhausen's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 9, 2018, and her nomination was reported out of committee on June 7, 2018, by an 11-10 vote.[4] Ohlhausen withdrew her nomination in October 2018 to join the law firm of Baker Botts.[2]
