Melanie L. Cyganowski was the Chief Judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Eastern District of New York. She joined the court in 1993 and served as Chief Judge from 2005 until her retirement in 2007.[1] She unexpectedly stepped down to pursue the private practice of law.[2]

Education

Cyganowski received her A.B. from Grinnell in 1974. In 1981, she received her J.D. from State University of New York at Buffalo.[1]

Career

From 1993 to 2005, Cyganowski worked as a judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Eastern District of New York, until she was elevated to the position of Chief Judge from 2005 until 2007. Since 2001, she has also acted as an Adjunct Professor at St. John's University School of Law.[1]
