Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am running for City Council because I believe I can make a difference. Having lived in Greensboro for most of my life, I believe now more than ever our amazing city is in desperate need of new leadership. Our current city council has been in power for too long and has made it clear they serve their special interests and the interests of big business over the interest of their constituents. I am running for the opportunity to serve THE PEOPLE of Greensboro.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Greensboro’s crime rate is 92% higher than the national average. It’s time to invest in our police and crack down on violent and property crimes. The vast shortage of officers on the force leaves police and citizens vulnerable. Our police need continual in-depth training relating to all aspects of their jobs and equitable competitive salaries. Our police need to be fully funded and focused on violent and property crimes rather than focusing on non-violent drug-related crimes. In 2019 Greensboro City Council voted to reject Federal JAG funding for 2020. The 2020 funds were then redirected to Guildford County Sheriff’s Office and have since been appropriated by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners on February 3, 2022. As of now, Greensboro has not appropriated JAG funding into the city’s public safety budget since 2019.

Greensboro has the reputation of being one of the most difficult cities in the state to develop land or start and operate a small business. Currently, Big businesses get economic incentives from Greensboro, and citizen-owned small businesses get the shaft. I will support efforts to streamline the city’s planning approval process and provide flexible assistance to developers to encourage win-win solutions for developing within city limits. When a small business goes to the Technical Review Committee portion of the city’s planning approval process they should be met with great flexibility and not be held to the same standards as a large corporation.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was at Libby Hill Restaurant in Greensboro NC. I started working as soon as I turned 15 and was able to get a workers permit.
