This measure sought to renew the current district levy which is set at a rate of $.20 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further five years in order to help pay for operational costs of the district.[2]

The question on the ballot:

Shall Merrill Rural Fire Protection District impose $.20/$1,000 of assessed value for general operations for five years beginning 2012-2013, $12,500.00. This measure renews current local option taxes.[3]
