Michael Coleman is a former mayor of Columbus, Ohio. He was first elected in 1999, and won re-election in 2003, 2007, and 2011. He stepped down in 2015. Before becoming mayor, Coleman was a member of the Columbus City Council from 1992-1999.[1]

On November 25, 2014, Coleman announced his intentions not to seek election to a fifth term in Columbus' 2015 municipal elections.[2] In mid December 2014, Coleman endorsed Columbus City Council President Andrew J. Ginther for Mayor.[3]

In 1997, Coleman was a Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Ohio. He lost to Maureen O'Connor.[1]

Coleman was born in Indianapolis, Ind. He obtained a B.A. in political science from the University of Cincinnati and a J.D. from the University of Dayton. His professional experience includes working as an attorney.[4]
