Peter C. Buckley

Peter C. Buckley was a multi-bench judge for the Chemung County Court and the Chemung County Surrogate's Court in New York. He also served as the supervising judge for the Justice Courts of the 6th Judicial District and as an acting justice of the Chemung County Supreme Court. He was appointed to the County Court in 1996. He was then elected a multi-bench judge of the County and Surrogate's Courts and took office in 1997. He was re-elected in 2007 to a term that ended in 2016. He was appointed to the positions of supervising judge and acting supreme court justice in 2008.[1] Buckley died in 2013.[2]
Education
Buckley received his B.A. degree from Niagara University in 1968 and his J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1971.[1]
Career
Buckley began his career in 1972 as an associate of the law firm of Jarvis, Pilz, Buckley & Treacy, P.C. In 1974, he left that firm to work as an assistant Chemung County district attorney, a position he held until 1979. He then joined the firm of Personius, Mustico, Sullivan & Prechtl, P.C., where he worked as an associate from 1978 to 1981. From 1981 until his judicial appointment in 1996, he worked as a partner with Denton, Keyser, LaBrecque & Moore, P.C.
Buckley's judicial career began in 1980, while he was also working as a private practice lawyer. He was elected judge of the Elmira City Court, where he served until 1997. He was appointed to the Chemung County Court in 1996. The following year, he became a multi-bench judge of the County and Surrogate's Courts of Chemung County. In 2008, he was also appointed supervising judge of the 6th Judicial District Justice Courts and acting justice of the Chemung County Supreme Court.[1]
