Richard A. Howard

Richard A. Howard is a Citrus County judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. He was appointed to this position by Governor Jeb Bush in December of 2000 and was sworn in the following January 17.[1][2] He was re-elected without opposition in 2014, winning a six-year term that expires on January 4, 2021.[3][4]

Education
Howard received his B.A. degree in criminal justice from the University of South Florida in 1975. He then earned his J.D. degree from the Stetson College of Law in 1978.[5]
Career
Howard began his career in 1978 as a state attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, where he was assigned to the Child Support Enforcement Unit. The following year, he was assigned to a criminal docket and was promoted to senior trial attorney. He held that position until 1985, when he transferred to the Fifth Judicial Circuit. There he worked as the Sumter County office manager and then as the division supervisor for the Lake-Sumter County Offices. He entered private practice in 1988. He practiced with former Judge Jackson Brownlee until 1990 and then with the law firm of Brick, Davis, Marlowe and Howard until 1993. After that, he worked as a sole practitioner until he was appointed to the circuit court in 2000.[5]
