Robert Alex Pell was a candidate for the Superior Court of Clay County in Indiana in 2012. Pell previously served on the Clay County Circuit Court following an appointment in March 2005 by Governor Mitch Daniels. He was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Judge Ernest Yelton left the bench to lead the Indiana Gaming Commission.[1]

Education

Pell received his Bachelors from Indiana University. He received his J.D.from Indiana University's McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis in 1980.[2]

Career

Pell has worked in private practice in Indiana and Florida, working in Florida from 1980 to 1982, and working in Indiana since that time. He has also served as chief deputy prosecuting attorney, child support deputy prosecuting attorney, and chief deputy prosecuting attorney.[2]

Approach to the law

My goal is to administer the caseload fairly, impartially and efficiently. I intend to conduct hearings with respect for attorneys and litigants, and I won't hesitate to be tough, if the case calls for it.[3]

Elections

2012

Pell ran for election against incumbent J. Blaine Akers in the 2012 election.[4] Pell was defeated in a close race, receiving 49.7% of the vote; less than 300 votes separated the winner and loser.[5]

2006

In 2006, Pell ran for election to retain his seat on the Circuit Court after his March 2005 appointment, but was defeated by Joseph D. Trout.[2]
