Robin Smith (Missouri)
Robin Smith was the 2016 Democratic candidate for Missouri Secretary of State.[1] She was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.
Biography
Smith began working as a news anchor with KMOV-TV, a CBS affiliate, in 1978 and continued in that position until her retirement in 2015. She also hosted a number of special philanthropic telethons, including the Sammy Davis Jr. Memorial Variety Club Telethon, which benefited disabled children, and the United Negro College Fund Telethon. Over the course of her career, Smith won several awards including four Emmy awards and the Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in reporting.[2]
Smith lives in St. Louis with her husband, Bud Stallworth, a basketball broadcaster and former N.B.A. player.

Smith ran for Missouri Secretary of State in the 2016 elections as a Democrat.[1] She won the Democratic nomination on August 2, 2016. She will compete in the general election with Jay Ashcroft (R), a private practice attorney and the son of former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, who also won his party's nomination, and Libertarian Chris Morrill, who ran unopposed. Heading into the primary election, Smith was the only Democrat in the race to report significant fundraising activity.
