Campaign themes

2014

Ivester published her platform on her campaign website:

  • Increased Student Achievement: Continue to focus on curriculum and instruction. ACT composite score averages have risen to 20.1 which is above the state average. The percentage of students in grades 3 through 8 scoring proficient or advanced on TCAP tests is on the rise. Sullivan County Schools had five Reward Schools that were recognized for performance and growth in student performance.
  • Budgeting: Ensure that as a school system we are spending our tax dollars in the most efficient manner possible. In the last several years, the Board of Education (BOE) has shown fiscal responsibility by reducing spending from $92 million to $85 million (general purpose school budget) commensurate with declining state revenues. The BOE has also improved spending efficiency across school zones to equalize the per pupil cost between areas of the county.
  • Alternative School: Research and explore the need for establishing a county-wide Alternative School.
  • Board Relations: Work with our director, other board members, and county commissioners to ensure our priorities in Sullivan County Schools focus on student education first and foremost, then retaining and supporting our outstanding educators.
  • Facility Planning Study: To effectively plan for the next 10 to 15 years, the BOE is working with an educational planner to establish priorities within the school system.
  • Teaching and Learning: Sullivan County Schools attained AdvancedED District Accreditation, as well as a recently established Teacher Leader program. Based on results from the Tell Tennessee Survey, positive learning cultures have been established along with improved teacher morale.[2]
