Koene was defeated by Melanie K. Reichert on April 5, receiving only 31.53% of the vote.[2][3][4]
Disorderly conduct charge
Koenen was charged with a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge after an argument with his neighbors involving his dog. The judge's neighbor called the Sheriff's Department after Koenen's dog escaped from his yard. This is the sixth time the department has been called to Koenen's house regarding this issue. His trial will occur on March 8, 2011.[5]
For his part in the argument, Koenen released a statement saying: "I regret that I did not exercise the self restraint, patience, temperance and dignity consistent with the judicial conduct I believe is required while I am wearing the robe of municipal judge. I apologize for any and all embarrassment I have caused the village of Union Grove and all its residents. I would ask that you please accept my profound apology for my actions."[6]
