Rosalinda Mercado-Garza was a candidate for Place 7 representative on the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District board of trustees in Texas. The general election was held on May 7, 2016. Mercado-Garza and fellow candidate Eladio Jaimez tied in the race. Mercado-Garza was defeated by Eladio Jaimez in a special election on June 11, 2016.[1]

The district school board election on May 7, 2016, featured one unopposed seat and one open seat. Place 3 incumbent Greg Powers was the sole candidate to file in the race. Place 7 incumbent Verna Young did not seek re-election and newcomers Eladio Jaimez and Rosalinda Mercado-Garza faced each other for the seat. Powers was automatically re-elected while Jaimez and Mercado-Garza tied in the race and faced each other in a special election on June 11, 2016, where Jaimez defeated Mercado-Garza.[2][3][4]
