A County of San Mateo Vehicle Rental Tax, Measure R ballot question was on the November 4, 2008 ballot in San Mateo County, California, where it was defeated.
If Measure R had been approved, it would have added a Chapter 5.150 to the San Mateo County Ordinance Code 1L to impose a business license tax of two and one-half percent (2.5%) of gross receipts on operators of vehicle rental businesses located in the unincorporated area of San Mateo County.
This is sometimes known as a gross receipts tax.
