Sarah Duncan Hinds is an at-large incumbent on the Portsmouth School Board in Virginia. She won an unexpired two-year term against appointed board member Laural Armstrong in the general election on November 4, 2014. Hinds won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.

Biography

Hinds is the curriculum coordinator for the Isle of Wight Public Schools. She previously specialist and social studies instructional specialist at Portsmouth Public Schools. Hinds obtained a bachelor's degree in history and secondary education from Old Dominion University and a master's degree in education from the University of Phoenix.[1]

'Five of the nine seats on the Portsmouth Public Schools school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Incumbents Ted Lamb, Costella Williams, Sarah Duncan Hinds won re-election to their seats. Angelia Allen and LaKeesha Atkinson won the remaining two seats up for election. Incumbent Keith Nance, De'Andre Barnes, and JoAnn Clarke finished sixth, seventh, and eighth in the race.[2]

The November 4, 2014, general election in Portsmouth Public Schools featured five seats up for election. Of the five seats, four were for a full term, and one seat was for an unexpired term. Three incumbents, Joseph A. Fleming, Claude C. Parent Jr. and Linda D. Ridenour, faced off against six challengers to retain their seats for another full term. The challengers were C.J. Bodnar, Lynn F. Briley, Kintrell M. Devin, Laura MacIntyre, Cardell C. Patillo Jr. and Ingrid P. Whitaker. Incumbent Mark Whitaker did not file for re-election. Appointed board member Laural Armstrong competed against challenger Sarah Duncan Hinds for an unexpired term ending in 2016.

Fleming, Whitaker, Parent and Patillo were elected to a full at-large term. Hinds won election to the unexpired seat.
