August 27, 2018: Christie’s New York expects to sell a painting created by artificial intelligence for at least $7,000. Portrait of Edmond de Belamy "depicts a man in a dark coat and white collar with indecipherable facial features that reside somewhere in the uncanny valley.”[1]

The painting was created by a French collective known as Obvious.[2] They plan to use the proceeds from the sale to further train their algorithm and maybe even get into 3D modeling. A member of the collective said they were “interested in the philosophical approach behind this," asking, "Can an algorithm be creative?"
