August 30, 2018: In 2016, a total of 2.8 million deaths were attributed to alcohol. Just over a quarter of those deaths—709,000—were in China.[1]
In the United States, 90,000 deaths were attributable to alcohol. As in all countries, there is a significant gender gap. A total of 71,000 U.S. men died from alcohol-related issues along with 19,000 women.
