February 23, 2026: Seventy-two years ago, on February 23, 1954, the polio vaccine was given for the first time. The vaccine was developed by Dr. Jonas Salk and given to a group of children in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Jonas Salk was sought out by an organization called the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes was founded by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who himself was a victim of polio. The vaccine Salk would develop helped bring cases down 99% worldwide.[1]
