February 27, 2024: Sixty-four percent (64%) of voters think that it is good for the U.S. to be part of the NATO alliance. A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that 64% would also favor sending U.S. troops if an ally like Germany was attacked by Russia or another enemy.

The survey also found that there was less support for defending a NATO ally who had not met its military spending obligations. In that case, 49% favor sending troops, while 34% are opposed.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on February 20-21, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
