January 19, 2026: Fourteen states allow ballots received by a certain point after Election Day to be counted as long as they were postmarked on or before Election Day. These states are Alaska, California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Most states (35) require ballots to have arrived by Election Day.
