July 10, 2023: 50 years ago, on July 10, 1973, the Bahamas gained independence from Great Britain. The Bahamas is comprised of over 3,100 isles, including 2,400 cays, and 700 islets and islands–only 30 of which are inhabited.[1]
After the U.S. Revolutionary War, 7,300 American supporters of British rule were moved to the Bahamas along with their African slaves.[2]
The Bahamas has one of the lowest population densities of any country in the world, with only 65.3 people per square mile, ranking it at 181st place on the list of most densely populated countries.[2]
