June 6, 2019: Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters nationwide believe that stores and restaurants should be required to accept cash payments. A ScottRasmussen.com national survey found that 53% believe stores should be free to make that decision on their own.[1]

At some point in their life, 30% of voters have found themselves wanting to pay cash for something and been told they had to use a credit card or payment app. That has happened to 55% of voters under 35 and just 8% of senior citizens.

When it comes to getting cash, younger voters are more likely to visit an ATM than their elders. Among those under 35, 77% visit an ATM at least once during a typical week. That figure falls to just 28% among senior citizens.

A similar trend is found among those who walk into a bank to cash a check. Younger Americans are much more likely to do so than their elders.
