November 24, 2021: Fifty percent (50%) of voters believe that the United States should slow down the transition to electric vehicles until we have the ability to produce the needed batteries in our own country. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that another 16% believe the United States should never transition to electric vehicles. [1]
Only 26% believe the U.S. should transition to electric vehicles as quickly as possible.[1]
Underlying those attitudes is concern about the fact that China is the world’s largest producer of batteries needed for electric vehicles. As America makes the transition to electric cars, 66% of voters are worried that we might be dependent upon China for those batteries. Twenty-six percent (26%) are not worried and 9% are not sure.[1]
Those totals include 34% who are very worried and 9% who are not at all worried.[1]
These attitudes come amidst growing voter concern about China:
- Sixty-three percent (63%) of voters believe the Chinese Government and Chinese Communist Party are a serious threat to the United States. Just 17% disagree and 20% are not sure.
- Seventy-three percent (73%) consider it likely that the Chinese government actively covered up its role in the release of the coronavirus.
- Sixty-six percent (66%) favor prohibiting the Chinese Government, the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese citizens from purchasing agricultural land located in the United States.
- Sixty-two percent (62%) believe it should be against the law for former Members of Congress to lobby on behalf of communist countries.
- Sixty-five percent (65%) favor prohibiting the U.S. government from entering into contracts with any entity the relies upon the use of forced labor in China.
- Sixty-two percent (62%) believe it should be against the law for companies in the U.S. to purchase or sell any products made by forced labor in Chinese detention camps.
