September 10, 2018: Ballotpedia research has found that 1,190 state legislative incumbents are not running for re-election in 2018.
That’s the highest total since 2012, and it means that nearly 20 percent of all state legislative races this year will be won by a newcomer.
A total of 731 Republican state legislators are not seeking re-election along with 428 Democratic state legislators.
