Campaign themes

2016

Ball's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Ethics & Campaign Finance Reforms

  • STRIP state pensions from elected officials convicted of felonies while in office.
  • REPEAL the law that lets state legislators and top government officials use donations to their election campaigns to pay for their legal bills while under investigation or on trial.
  • OUTLAW the LLC loophole that lets big donors dodge legal limits on donations to state officials’ election campaign
  • REJECT any recommended pay raise for state lawmakers UNLESS it is linked to strict limits on legislators’ outside income.

Economic Development

REAL economic development must be held accountable for creating jobs. My experience with strict guidelines for non-profits has prepared me to bring the same approach to government. We should reduce the tax burden on small businesses and middle class property owners by investing in arts and culture destination tourism upstate. Arts and culture brings in about $18 billion dollars to the state economy. The arts led the way in reviving downtown Binghamton and other upstate cities... Arts are not an ornament. They are good business.

Heroin/opioid Epidemic

The heroin/opioid epidemic is an emergency in every part of our region. It is NOT a partisan issue and everyone must work together to find solutions.

  • EXPAND long-term treatment options in rural communities. They are as hard-hit as urban centers by the overdoses and deaths, but have fewer local resources and face barriers that include traveling long distances to get help.
  • SUPPORT advocacy groups that are working to support families, educate the community, and pushing for effective legislation to help communities cope with this ongoing public health crisis.
  • REJECT political posturing and partisan bickering that impedes progress toward solutions, disrespects the lives that have been lost, and the grieving families left behind.[1]
