A Siskiyou County hotel tax, Measure M was on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Siskiyou County for all voters in the county. It was defeated.
Measure M was an attempt by the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors to raise the lodging (hotel) tax in the county from 8% to 10%. This type of tax is also known as a transient lodging tax.
- Yes: 5,455 (45.3%)
- No: 6,599 (54.7%)
The language on the ballot said:
- Shall there be an increase of two percent (2%) to the general tax for the privilege of transient occupancy in any hotel as defined in Title 8, Chapter 4 of the Siskiyou County Code, which increase would set the total transient occupancy tax at ten percent (10%) of the rent charged by the operator.
