Spokane County Sales Tax Increase, Proposition 1, 2009
The Spokane County Sales Tax Increase, Proposition 1 was on the August 18, 2009 ballot in Spokane County for county voters. The measure proposed raising sales tax by one-tenth of one percent. The funds generated by the increase were earmarked for criminal justice and public safety purposes. The increase was set to start on January 1st, 2010, and end on March 31st, 2020.[1]

State law authorizes voters to approve the imposition of a one-tenth of one percent countywide sales and use tax, the proceeds to be used by Spokane County and the Cities and Towns therein Exclusively for Criminal Justice and Public Safety purposes.
Should the Board of County Commissioners of Spokane County, as authorized by RCW 82.14.450, renew the imposition of a one-tenth of one percent county-wide sales and use tax, commencing January 1, 2010 and terminating March 31, 2020, the proceeds to be used by
Spokane County and the Cities and Towns therein Exclusively for Criminal Justice and Public Safety Purposes?
