[1]
This measure sought to allow the Spring Hill fire district to levy taxes up to $2.50 per $1,000 of assessed value of homes in the district area in order to provide fire and rescue services.[2] The current tax rate is actually set at 2.75 mills so if it had been approved, this measure would have lowered district property taxes. Also, the measure would have given the fire district the authority to control the tax rate in the area where as currently the county sets the tax rate. Even if the measure had been approved, layoffs and budget cuts were still expected by the fire district.[3]
