Thompson elected chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court

Georgia: Presiding Justice Hugh Thompson has been selected as the Georgia Supreme Court's next chief justice. He was unanimously elected by his peers, the other justices of the Supreme Court, and will start in his new role on August 15, 2013. Thompson replaces current Chief Justice Carol Hunstein and will serve a four-year term.[1]
Thompson began his judicial career in 1971, serving on the Milledgeville City Court and Baldwin County Court. He then served as a Superior Court judge in the Ocmulgee Circuit from 1979 until his appointment to the Supreme Court in 1994.[2]
