Topeka Smoking Ban Reversal Proposition (2010)
There is a current petition drive for a Topeka Smoking Ban Reversal Proposition in Shawnee County for residents in the city of Topeka.
A city wide smoking ban was approved by the council and put in to effect December 4. A group of residents are trying to petition for enough signatures to put this issue to a public vote instead. The group needs to collect 5,744 signatures by April 13 in order to qualify for the November election. As of December 7, the group claimed they had 3,838 signatures on their petition. Petitioners say that signature gathering is slowing down and there was a recent incident with petitions being stolen out of a business. Although a police report was filed, not much could be done since it was only a minor event.[1]
