Maine: Judge Nancy Torresen was confirmed by the Senate on October 3 and was then sworn in on October 11. Judge John Woodcock posted an announcement on the court's website, saying, "On behalf of the district, I am pleased to announce that Nancy Torresen took the oath of office as United States District judge today. Judge Torresen is the court’s 17th federal district judge in the District of Maine. … Please join the court in extending a very warm welcome to Judge Torresen." Judge Torresen is the first woman to serve on the court.[1]
Nancy Torresen to face Senate confirmation vote Monday

WASHINGTON, District of Columbia: The U.S Senate will vote Monday on whether to confirm assistant U.S. attorney Nancy Torresen as the new U.S. District Court judge for Maine.[2] Torresen was nominated in March by President Obama, and her nomination was cleared in May. She received unanimous approval by the Senate Judiciary Committee. She would replace D. Brock Hornby on the court. Hornby assumed senior status in 2010, but he has continued to handle a full caseload. Maine is also currently awaiting a nomination to fill the vacancy left by Kermit Lipez on the United States Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit.[2]
