CHARLESTON, West Virginia: Governor Joe Manchin ended special session on May 20, 2010, after the state's legislators sent two out of the eight Governor's education reform proposals to his desk in chances of winning federal Race to the Top funding[1].

The West Virginia State Senate approved seven out of the eight measures to capitalize on over $70 million dollars in federal funding. However, the House of Delegates approved two out of the seven bills the Senate approved with the June 1st application deadline looming for the second round of Race to the Top. The Governor stated that with only two of his reform proposals approved would make it impossible for the state to win the highly sought after education funding[1].

Governor Manchin has said that he will call the legislature again into another special session on June 7, 2010 to re-consider the eight education proposals again as U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan indicated there could be a third round of Race to the Top funding[1].
