A Pasco County Sales Tax Renewal measure was on the November 6, 2012 ballot in Pasco County, where it was approved.
This measure sought to renew the current penny sales tax in the county for a further ten years in order to continue to help pay for school needs in the county, public safety and transportation projects. This tax is expected to generate $502 million over the ten year period and the money would be split between the different projects.[1] County and school officials noted that it has taken them more time to write out the proposed ballot language this time because they want to ensure the limited ballot language conveys all the purposes the tax renewal would be used for. Both stated that while those in favor for and against the measure would campaign in the months preceding the election, many residents just see the ballot language so it is important the words serve their purpose. The ballot language is limited to 75 words.[2]
