Hawaii

By Justin Haas

HONOLULU, Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie signed a bill into law Wednesday which will regulate an undersea power cable that will transmit electricity between the Hawaiian islands. The bill, SB 2785, passed the Legislature on the final day of this year's session.[1]

The cable was listed as an administration priority during the Governor's state-of-the-state speech earlier this year. It is also the centerpiece of the Hawaiian Electric Company's "Big Wind" project, a project that proposed sending electricity from wind farms on the smaller islands to the more populated Oahu.[1]
