The Paris J1 School District Referendum was a school bond measure on the April 7 ballot in the Paris J1 School District, which is in Kenosha and Grant Counties. The referendum was brought to the ballot by the school board, and it sought to exceed state-set revenue limits by $600,000 per year. What the additional funds would be used for has not been specified.
After the April measure failed to pass, the school board voted unanimously to make a second attempt. There will be a special election held on June 9, 2009, where the voters will be asked to approve $1,515,000 over the state-set revenue limits by 2012. The additional funds would be used for operating expenses.
Status
The April measure was defeated, with 165 "yes" votes and 512 "no" votes.[1][2] There is a similar measure going before the voters in a special election on June 9, 2009.
The referendum was approved.[3]

The estimated tax impact in the 2009-2010 fiscal year if this measure is passed is approximately $368 on a $200,000 home.[4]
Wording of referendum
Be it resolved by the School Board of the Joint School District Number 1, Towns of Paris and Bristol, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, that the revenues included in the School District budget be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $435,000 for the 2009-2010 school year; by $495,000 for the 2010-2011 school year and by $585,000 for the 2011-2012 school year for non-recurring purposes.[1]
