The Montana Gasoline Tax Initiative, also known as I-55, was on the November 4, 1952 ballot in Montana as an initiated state statute, where it was defeated. The measure would have required gasoline dealers to pay a licensing tax of seven cents for each gallon of gasoline sold in order to continue to engage in the business of selling gasoline. This tax would have contributed towards paying for the principal and interest of the debentures issued for the highways.[1][2]
