Formerly, Rielly worked as a Superior Court Commissioner (1989-1995) and a partner in the law firm of Taft, Rielly & Mackin (1975-1989). Regarding his reasons for leaving, the 66-year-old judge stated, "I don’t feel burned out, but I feel a younger person should take the helm."
