Fatima Huerta was the Place 1 member of the San Benito Board of Trustees in Texas. First elected to the board in 2012, she ran for re-election to a second consecutive term on May 9, 2015, but she sought the Place 3 seat instead of her Place 1 seat. Huerta was defeated by Joe Gonzalez in the election for Place 3.[1]

The winners of the 2015 election joined the district's new superintendent in tackling the consequences of an unbalanced budget. While initially a large reduction in staff seemed necessary to make up for several year's of over spending, other suggested plans hoped to avoid such a cull.
