Political parties in Hawaii function within the democratic process by bringing together like-minded voters in support of specific public policy objectives. Political parties adopt a set of policy priorities, often referred to as the party's platform or principles, and back political candidates who advocate for the party's policy positions. Voters who identify with a political party may choose to support the party's slate of candidates. In this way, political parties challenge one another by building voter support and electing candidates to public office.[1][2]
