John W. Madden IV
John W. Madden IV is a judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Colorado.[1] Madden was appointed to the bench in 2006 and was most recently retained by voters in 2014.[2][3] His six-year term was set to expire on January 11, 2021.[4]

Madden was retained to the Second Judicial District with 65.5 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [5]

Madden received his undergraduate degree and his J.D. from the University of Colorado, the latter in 1990.[6]

Judge releases man accused of sexual assault after 45 days in jail
Judge John W. Madden IV sentenced Jared Bates, a man accused of sexual assault, to 45 days in jail after Bates agreed to plea guilty to charges of attempted sexual assault. Since he had been in jail for 47 days at the time of his sentencing, Bates was released.
A spokeswoman for the Denver District Attorney's Office said they had asked for Bates to serve up to three years in prison. "Our office negotiated a plea agreement - that the victim approved - and which called for Jared Bates to serve up to three years in prison. At sentencing, we requested a three-year prison sentence."[7]
Madden could not comment to media sources on the case since he was prohibited to discuss cases and rulings by state law.
Bates' accuser, Maria Crow, said of the judge's ruling: "I want women to know his face, I want them to know his (Bates') name. I want them to know the judge's name, I want them to know that he [Madden] decided how this was going to go."[7]
