I take pride in being a product of two Mexican immigrants and the public school system. As a passionate advocate for public education, I credit my life's positive trajectory to the transformative impact of the education system. Having served as a former Dallas ISD educator and currently leading an education non-profit, I've witnessed the profound effects that effective systems and change management can have on students. Dallas College holds the potential to reshape the narrative surrounding community colleges. It stands as a crucial player in enhancing workforce readiness, offering students opportunities to obtain industry-based certifications, level 1 and level 2 certifications, and associate degrees—empowering them to secure careers with livable wages. Recognizing the need for a board with a keen focus on outcomes, I am running for District 7, aiming to concentrate on meaningful indicators that truly reflect our commitment to fulfilling the promises made to our students and their families. We must ensure that attending our institution means attaining certifications that lead to successful careers or degrees.
  • Economic Empowerment & In-Demand Skills (Improving workforce readiness) We need to meet the demand of workforce talent and prepare our students to be career-ready in any field they desire to pursue.
  • Seamless Educational Pathways Dallas County Community College should have a seamless transition for students who wish to continue their education at a different university by strengthening partnerships with those administrations.
  • Early Pathways to Success (Enhancing dual credit programs) By fueling the ambitions of high school students and honoring more dual credit programs we can begin setting students on a path towards success before they even graduate high school.
I deeply respect my father and aspire to be as resilient as he is. As an immigrant who labored tirelessly to achieve his dreams, he has not only inspired me but instilled in me a profound appreciation for hard work and determination. My goal is to emulate his resilience and bring these attributes into my leadership journey. I want to contribute to building and creating things that improve people's lives, all while embodying the same unwavering perseverance that I have learned from my father's example.
The primary responsibilities of a board member include overseeing the network's programs, strategies, and initiatives by monitoring progress through outcome goals set by the board. Additionally, the board is tasked with adopting policies to guide the network's strategies and practices. It is also responsible for approving an annual budget aligned with the board's goals to adequately fund network practices. Lastly, the board evaluates the performance of the Dallas College chancellor.
