JUNEAU, Alaska: Cynthia Lord of Anchorage was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of sons Christopher, Michael and Joseph. Judge Philip Volland found her mentally ill but still guilty. Lord appealed, arguing that she was not guilty by reason of insanity and that Judge Volland had erred in his verdict. She also made the claim that the state's laws concerning insanity were unconstitutional.

Her appeal was ultimately rejected by the Alaska Court of Appeals which upheld the constitutionality of the laws.[1]
