Indiana judge sends message to those avoiding jury duty
March 4, 2011
Indiana: Judge Michael P. Scopelitis does not take jury duty lightly. After 350 potential jurors did not return questionnaires sent out in October, the judge ordered them to appear before him in court yesterday. Today, another crop of 350 are scheduled to be in court.[1]
Scopelitis wanted to remind the citizens that serving on a jury is an important civic duty. However, for the 100 that did not come to the courtroom, the judge says he will order sheriff deputies to arrest them.[1]
