Judge recuses self during initial court appearance

Utah: On August 24, 2011, Judge Claudia Laycock of the 4th District Court surprised the courtroom when she recused herself during the initial appearance. Her recusal occurred after speaking with attorneys in the courtroom.[1]
The trial concerns Provo Councilman Steven C. Turley who is being charged with 10 felony charges in involvement with a string of real estate deals he handled.[1]
Judge Laycock has not explained her actions.[1]
