"Defense of Marriage Amendments" refer to constitutional amendments to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

As of December 2014, the following 15 states had state constitutional amendments that banned gay marriage: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. Five of the 15 states had defense of marriage amendments under court review.[1]
