Lavish T. Williams is a civilian who enjoys working in his community. He has proven to be loyal, dedicated and a servant. He serves his community by way of food distributions, mentoring, volunteering, and coordinating special activities with the Detroit Police Department. My mission is to be committed to excellence by being the voice of the people. I will make myself available as I listen to understand the issues and find solutions to solve them. I will provide service with understanding, respond with compassion, and perform with integrity.
Citizens Concerns: we must seek new ways to address the contemporary neighborhood problems of crime, fear of crime, disorder, and physical and social decay.

Accountability: Not all officers are corrupt, but when an officer fails to uphold their sworn duty, proper discipline is required leading up to termination if needed.

Policies:Through open communication, I will strive to increase public understanding of law enforcement complexities, to ensure the certainty that Department priorities match community expectations, and to inform the public of the reasons for police actions.

Budget Spending: I will ensure the Detroit Police Department is managing the budget so that there is a maximum return from the expenditure of each tax dollar appropriated. Issues such as employee productivity, fiscal accountability, planning and resource utilization will be carefully studied and systematically addressed.
The person that I look up to is my Grandfather. I was raised by my Grandparents and my Grandfather has been the example of what a male role model should be. He has always been that source of encouragement and he is one that is worth being imitated. My Grandfather has shown me how to live life with integrity, hope, compassion, optimism, and determination. He taught me life skills, gave me good advice, and always stayed positive. Now I in-turn give back in the way of mentoring at risk youth to pass along those skills that were instilled in me.
I believe that the most important characteristics an elected official should have is one of Good Moral Character. A person’s personal beliefs and values will shine through while running day to day operations. If what has been instilled in you are not of good character, it will eventually show in your leadership. Secondly an elected official should have Passion. Passion is what drives your leadership. It’s the source of you striving to serve the community in the best way possible.
The qualities that I possess is confidence. You need confidence to believe in yourself that you can do anything that you put your mind to. Second is commitment and compassion. I am committed to being a servant leader to the citizens of Detroit and with compassion and understanding I will be able to communicate on their behalf what the citizens want. Honesty and integrity will play a vital role of me being an officeholder as I am held to a higher standard and so many others are counting on me. Finally, being a good communicator. Communication does not only involve speaking but being a listener as well. I am willing to listen to the citizens as their liaison to the Police Department in order for decisions to be made that will work for all.
The legacy that I would like to leave for my children is both of my businesses. Lavish Towing and Lavish Car Wash & Detail Center. This Legacy will be carried on from generation to generation. I have laid the foundation and I am giving my boys the tools they need to be successful in this business. I am also leaving a legacy of being a community activist. I work hard to give back to be a household name, someone that people will never forget. People will not only remember me for my businesses but also for feeding the hungry, bringing the community together, and fighting for what is right.
My very first job was working for McDonald and i worked for the restaurant as a high-school student for 2 years during school and continued on for another year after graduating
My favorite book is the “Black Enterprise”. It is a book that describes step by step how to start a small business and entrepreneurship.
The last song that stuck in my head is “He Saw the Best In Me” by Marvin Sapp. That song speaks to my life. One day my story will be told in a book.
Something that has been a struggle in my life is having a parent with a disability. My mom suffered with a stroke shortly after giving birth to me and is paralyzed on one side of her body. Growing up was tuff because I am an only child, and I took care of my mom. I missed out on a lot of activities that children should be participating in due to my mom’s health. I would also say that there was something unique about me, I never fit in with your normal crowd. I stayed to myself which worked out to my advantage with the life I live today.
Citizens need to be clear on the role of the Police Commissioner. The police commissioner’s job is to make sure that its fair treatment between the police and the citizens and to ensure that police officers are being policed and held accountable for providing a city service to the citizens. The Police Commissioner should strive to increase public understanding of law enforcement complexities, to ensure the certainty that Department priorities match community expectations, and to inform the public of the reasons for police actions.
No I do not feel it would be beneficial to have previous experience. we need real live citizens in this position that actively see from a citizen’s point of view since this is a citizen/civilian oversight position. Those who may not have the experience often come in with a fresh pair of eyes, new ideas, and without biasness. With real life citizen complaints and concerns.
The area of expertise that would be most helpful to an individual in this office would be one who enjoys working and being around people. This positions works with the citizens and you have to engage with the community in order to find out the concerns and needs of the people.
