Five seats on the Austin Independent School District school board in Texas—for Districts 1, 4, 6, and 7 and at-large position 9—were up for general election on November 6, 2018. Incumbents in Districts 6 and 7 ran unopposed; the other three races were contested. Board members serve four-year terms.

Incumbent Edmund T. Gordon lost to challenger LaTisha Anderson in District 1. The other two contested races were open. In District 4, Kristin Ashy defeated Zachary Price.

The at-large Position 9 race advanced to a runoff, as none of the three candidates running reached more than 50 percent of the vote on November 6. Arati Singh and Carmen Tilton faced off on December 11, 2018.

The Austin Independent School District (AISD) board oversees the superintendent, votes on budgets, and sets tax rates.[1] One of the priorities of the 2019-2022 school board was to stabilize the district's budget.[2]

The district entered the 2018-2019 school year with a $30 million budget deficit and had used savings from a reserve fund to balance its budget since 2012.[3][2]
