Arthur E. Morehead, III was a family court judge for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit in South Carolina.[1] He joined the court in June 1985 and retired on December 31, 2018.[2][3][4]

Education

Morehead received his undergraduate degree in political science from The Citadel in 1968 and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1973.[2]

Career

After graduating from law school, Morehead practiced law with the firm of Nelson, Mullins, Grier and Scarborough in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1976, he formed his own firm, Swearingen and Morehead, in Florence, South Carolina. He practiced law in Florence until his election to the Twelfth Judicial Circuit in 1985. In January 2000, Morehead briefly left the court to take the position of acting judge for the South Carolina Court of Appeals, where he served until July 2000. Thereafter, he returned to the Family Court of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. In 2003, he did another brief stint on the South Carolina Court of Appeals.[2]
