Alice Blackwell was a judge of the Florida 9th Circuit Court. She assumed office on April 15, 1991. She left office on June 30, 2023.

Blackwell won re-election for judge of the Florida 9th Circuit Court outright in the general election on November 8, 2022, after the primary and general election were canceled.

Blackwell was appointed to the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court by Gov. Lawton Chiles in 1991.[1][2][3][4]

Biography

Education

Blackwell received her B.A. degree (in political science) from Furman University in 1977 and her J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina in 1980.[5]

Career

Blackwell began her career working in the Lowndes law firm in Orlando, FL. She worked as a lawyer, focusing on commercial litigation, prior to becoming a circuit judge in 1991.[2]

During her tenure as a circuit judge, Blackwell has served in the following divisions:

  • Orange County Criminal (1991-96, 2003, 2010-present)
  • Administrative Judge, Civil (1997-99)
  • Orange County Civil (1999-2000)
  • Orange County Domestic (2001, 2003-05)
  • Administrative Judge, Domestic (2002, 2006-09)
  • Associate Administrative Judge, Criminal (2011)[5]

General election

The general election was canceled. Alice Blackwell (Nonpartisan) won without appearing on the ballot.

2016

Florida's 20 circuit courts all had seats up for election in 2016. Of the 151 seats up for election, 125 saw only one candidate file for the election. The unopposed races were canceled and the sole candidates were automatically elected. Of the 26 opposed races, only 10 saw more than two candidates file. [6]
