Harvey A. Kornstein was a judge of the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. He was first elected to this position in 1998 (effective January of 1999) and was retained to a six-year term on August 24, 2010.[1][2][3] Kornstein retired from the court on December 31, 2013.[4]

Education

Kornstein received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Florida, in 1973 and 1976, respectively. He later attended the Naval Justice School in Rhode Island (1977), the Military Judge's School in Virginia (1978) and the Florida Judicial College (1989).

Military service

Kornstein served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1974 to 1981. From 1981 to 2004, he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a Colonel.[2][5]

Career

Kornstein began his career as a Special Assistant State Attorney, serving in the 6th, 13th and 19th Judicial Circuits. In 1980, he became an assistant state attorney in the 10th Judicial Circuit. He worked in that capacity until 1984, becoming Chief of the Major Narcotics section. In August of that year, he became a Polk County Court judge, but his term ended the following January. He then became Field Counsel for the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, which investigated and prosecuted healthcare fraud. In January of 1989, he returned to the County Court, where he served until his election to the circuit court in 1998. In 1991, he was the Administrative County Judge.[2][5]

2010 election

Kornstein ran unopposed and was automatically retained to a new term.[3]
