Yvonne Lewis is a former a justice of the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 2nd Judicial District of New York. She was first elected to this position in 1992.[1]

In October 2015, Lewis announced her resignation from the court, effective December 31, 2015. The New York Commission on Judicial Conduct had been looking into possible misconduct charges against her since 2013, however Lewis said had been planning to retire soon and her resignation was not a result of the pending charges. Noteworthy events

Judge investigated for ethics violations

The New York Commission on Judicial Conduct first launched an investigation against Judge Lewis in 2013, after allegations emerged that the judge had signed payment forms for her law secretary, Kimberly Detherage, for work she had done for other jurists.[3]

According to the commission, when Lewis hired Detherage in 2009, she was still working as a guardian on cases before other judges. Judge Lewis also presided over cases where Detherage was the guardian. "Once she went to work for the judge, the judge, in our view, was obliged not to participate in those matters further," said Robert Tembeckjian, the commission administrator.[2]

When Lewis announced her resignation, she attorney said it was not due to the charges but, "Rather it is in keeping with Justice Lewis' retirement plans, which she contemplated more than two years ago."[2]
